How does JUNE define the long-term role of AI in legal process automation \u2013\u00a0Is\u00a0the\u00a0main\u00a0objective\u00a0to\u00a0increaseefficiency\u00a0in high-volume matters, or does JUNE aim to fundamentally restructure legal work and,\u00a0thus\u00a0shape new role and competency profiles within legal departments?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Answer:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>I would like to start by turning our attention to the manufacturing industry. There, one thing quickly becomes clear: manual\u00a0craftsmanship, if\u00a0encountered\u00a0at all, is\u00a0largely confined\u00a0to the luxury segment. Wherever products need to be manufactured in larger quantities at market-competitive costs, automated production processes are essential. Industrialisation has been a key driver of development,\u00a0growth\u00a0and progress. Our modern world would quite simply be inconceivable without automated production.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In the legal profession, there is sometimes a belief that intellectual\u00a0craftsmanship\u00a0is the ultimate ideal. Wherever legal high-wire artistry is\u00a0required, that is undoubtedly true \u2013 and for several years now, several providers have been supporting this work by refining well-known language models for legal use.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

But law is not only about individual disputes,\u00a0transactions\u00a0or customised contracts. In many legal departments and law firms, in banks and insurance companies, in trade unions and associations, as well as in the judiciary and public administration, legal work is a volume-driven business. When an organisation must handle hundreds or thousands of cases, this is not a marginal issue \u2013 it is core business. And in this context, improving efficiency alone is not enough. Efficiency means doing the same thing faster. What we are\u00a0observing\u00a0is a different kind of problem.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Well-trained and hard-working lawyers\u00a0are overwhelmed\u00a0\u2013\u00a0by\u00a0deadlines,\u00a0by\u00a0case status,\u00a0by\u00a0communication with external parties. Beyond a certain volume, a legal chain reaction sets in: a missed deadline escalates into three further proceedings, an unresolved case triggers the next one, and suddenly the entire team loses\u00a0track of the overall situation. Organisations therefore do not need a faster form of\u00a0craftsmanship. They need a fundamentally\u00a0different way\u00a0of working. And it is precisely out of this experience that JUNE was born.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

What\u00a0emerges\u00a0from this in the long term genuinely changes which tasks people take on \u2013 and which skills are\u00a0required. We are already seeing the emergence of new roles: legal operations managers who design processes instead of managing files; lawyers who work with data and steer workflows rather than drafting routine correspondence. What is adopted today by the major players in the market will become part of the legal mainstream \u2013 because the complexity and volume of legal work simply leave no alternative.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Question 2: Technological Core<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>You describe JUNE as orchestrating legal processes end-to-end, autonomously structuring knowledge and\u00a0ensuring scalability. Which core components of the platform enable this deep, integrated automation?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Answer:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>What distinguishes JUNE from other approaches is the consistency with which we map the entire process \u2013 from the\u00a0initial\u00a0receipt of a document through to the final decision and the reporting that follows. Many solutions address individual steps. JUNE\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>presents a clear overview of the\u00a0whole process.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In practical terms, this means that cases enter the system via various channels \u2013 email, APIs, forms \u2013\u00a0which\u00a0are\u00a0then\u00a0immediately\u00a0structured. AI-supported extraction and document classification ensure that relevant data is automatically\u00a0identified\u00a0and assigned, without any need for manual intervention. On this basis, an adaptive workflow system manages case processing with dynamic task and deadline control that adjusts to the actual progression of a\u00a0case\/process. Documents are generated and dispatched automatically. Overarching all of this is a comprehensive transparency layer: every case, every deadline and every activity is traceable and reportable in real time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

What is often underestimated is the knowledge\u00a0component. Every processed case\u00a0produces\u00a0structured data\u00a0on\u00a0how it was classified, which arguments were used, which decisions were made and with what outcome. JUNE\u00a0enables the systematic and effective use of this knowledge.\u00a0\u2013 not as a static archive, but as an active\u00a0component\u00a0of ongoing case handling. Over time, organisations build a genuine knowledge advantage that translates into better decisions, shorter processing\u00a0times\u00a0and more consistent quality.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

And because we know that no legal department starts with a blank slate, JUNE is built to integrate into existing system landscapes \u2013 whether document management systems, ERP\u00a0environments\u00a0or communication infrastructures. Data security and compliance are not afterthoughts, but integral to architectural decisions from the outset. What\u00a0is the difference between JUNE\u2019s technology and\u00a0those\u00a0from other AI<\/span><\/b>\u2011supported contract or workflow tools on the market?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Answer:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>Most of the solutions I see on the market address a specific step within the legal process \u2013 contract analysis, document generation or research. These are useful tools that make individual tasks faster. The real question only arises at a different scale: how do I manage hundreds or\u00a0thousands of parallel cases in a way that ensures no\u00a0case\u00a0falls through the cracks, no deadline is missed and I\u00a0am constantly aware of my\u00a0current status?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

That requires a different architectural decision. At JUNE, AI is not a layer applied retrospectively to existing processes \u2013 it is built in as an operational\u00a0component\u00a0from the very beginning. A multi<\/span>\u2011agent system runs continuously in the background, coordinating parallel proceedings,\u00a0identifying\u00a0deviations\u00a0and intervening on a rule-based basis, without requiring a human to\u00a0initiate\u00a0every single step. The classification and extraction of incoming documents is based on models trained on legal content and tailored to the specific requirements of our clients. This is not a generic language model with a legal prompt layered on top.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The third differentiator is enterprise readiness. JUNE is hosted in Europe, compliant with the GDPR and the DSA, and has passed the full IT security processes\u00a0required\u00a0large organisations. This may sound like an operational detail \u2013 but anyone who has ever tried to roll out new software in an organisation like Lufthansa, or a comparable enterprise, knows that this is precisely what\u00a0determines\u00a0success or failure. Technological superiority is of little value if security requirements are not met.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Question 4: Scaling & Implementation Experience. <\/span><\/b>You refer to working with large organisations and to JUNE\u2019s ability to manage hundreds of cases\u00a0simultaneously.\u00a0What lessons\u00a0have you learned\u00a0from\u00a0previous\u00a0implementations \u2013 particularly\u00a0with regard to\u00a0change management, process\u00a0design\u00a0and the path from\u00a0initial\u00a0use cases to true end<\/span><\/b>\u2011to<\/span><\/b>\u2011end transformation?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Answer:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>What we\u00a0observe\u00a0time and again\u00a0during implementations is that organisations\u00a0come to us\u00a0with a technical\u00a0issue\u00a0and\u00a0then discover\u00a0other\u00a0new problems:\u00a0it often\u00a0transpires\u00a0that they\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0understand their own processes\u00a0as well as\u00a0they thought. How does a case\u00a0actually enter\u00a0the organisation? Who decides what, and on what basis? Where do delays really arise? This clarification process is uncomfortable, but it is the most valuable part of the implementation \u2013 and a prerequisite for everything that follows.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The second lesson genuinely surprised us: technology is rarely the real obstacle.\u00a0It is\u00a0actually the\u00a0people\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0structures\u00a0which\u00a0slows\u00a0us\u00a0down or derails implementations.\u00a0Lawyers who have long relied on personal experience and informal networks may initially perceive a platform that\u00a0 Lawyers who have long relied on personal experience and informal networks may initially perceive a platform that brings transparency and structure to processes as a loss of control, rather than a\u00a0benefit..Change\u00a0management at JUNE therefore primarily means identifying the right internal champions early on, making success visible and showing teams that the platform does not make them replaceable \u2013 it makes them more effective.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In terms of process design, we have learned that one should never start with the ideal state. Those who\u00a0attempt\u00a0to map the perfect process from the outset become lost in endless coordination loops. What works is a different approach: start with a concrete, painful problem that everyone recognises, build a functioning process for it and then\u00a0repeat. Good process design does not\u00a0emerge\u00a0on the drawing board \u2013 it\u00a0reveals itself in practice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As for the journey from initial use cases to true transformation, what we see is a legal chain reaction \u2013 this time in a positive sense. When the first process truly works, it does more than improve the handling of high case volumes. It changes the team\u2019s confidence, their willingness to change and their perspective on other processes. We see this across\u00a0\u00a0a wiede variety of organisations. The fact that a company like META is among our clients demonstrates that the requirements for legal process automation are no longer industry-specific. At a certain point, we are no longer the ones asking which processes can be automated \u2013 instead, the legal department comes to us with new ideas. The decisive moment is when they stop thinking of JUNE as a tool for a specific type of proceeding and begin to view it as operational infrastructure.
